Blackberry Bold Touch 9900 Vs Nokia E6: Make A Smart Choice

BlackBerry mobile phones were broadly regarded as the standard options for those in search of speedy, secure messengers; until Nokia introduced its successful E-class range of handset to challenge for a segment of the portrait QWERTY pie. But the game has changed drastically in the recent years and the BlackBerry Bold 9900 and Nokia E6 have a lot to show, but which will be considered as the portrait messenger.

Build

If we look in to the size of both the handsets then we can clearly see that there isn’t much different in between these two devices. Both are thin and easily slip down in to the pocket and it would be a fairly safe to mention that both the handsets with the pedigree of RIM and Nokia are stout and extremely sturdy. BlackBerry Bold 9900 has dimensions measuring 115x66x10.5mm and weighs only 130gm while, Nokia E6 features a dimension measuring 115.5x59x10.5mm and is 133gmin weight.  Even in terms of looks and design both the gadgets look quite similar. However, BlackBerry Bold 9900 is built with certain outstanding qualities which Nokia E6 lacks in it. Again, if you are style conscious then Bold 9900 is unlikely to appeal you.

Screen

The BlackBerry Bold 9900 is adorned with a 2.8-inch TFT capacitive screen that functions at a resolution of 640×480 pixels. The display unit of the phone is a subject of joy to observe and film playback (including 720p content) is incredible. Nokia’s E6 carries a similar screen that is a little smaller being 2.46-inches. Its display has the same resolution as the Bold 9900. Both the E6 and Bold 9900 have lots to offer in the screen department but they still lack gongs over the likes of the iPhone 4 or Samsung Galaxy S II

Camera

Nokia has instilled the E6 with a first-rate 8-megapixel shooter enhanced with features life dual-LED flash, geo-tagging and face detection. The E6 lacks auto-focus in its camera making it not the perfect choice for the people who are looking for a camera-phone. This Nokia phone has pretty solid video capturing functionality capable of recording content at 24fps in 720p. The handset also features a secondary VGA camera that provides you with the opportunity of video calling with your near and dear ones.

As always it is business for the BlackBerry Bold 9900, with the gizmo carrying RIM’s standard 5-megapixel shooter added with LED flash, autofocus, geo-tagging, face detection and picture stabilization. BlackBerry has added many updated and enhanced performance advancements to its Bold 9900. The Bold Touch 9900 however, lacks a secondary camera, thus you will miss the opportunity of video calling with this handset.

Operating System

Nokia has decided to stick with Symbian operating system for the E6 and has been powered by a 600MHz ARM 11 processor with a devoted GPU that performs commendably despite its lack of grunt. The integration of 256MB RAM is a mystifying choice too, when you consider the devices that Nokia is in the line of competition in this segment of the market.

On the other hand, RIM has enriched things up a little in to its Bold 9900. This handset operates on the latest and greatest version of the company’s much-loved BlackBerry OS, version 7. RIM has given power to the device by infusing 1.2GHz single-core CPU and has been added with 768MB RAM, which makes for a very snappy BlackBerry OS. The upgraded enhancements in the Bold 9900 include RIM’s new Liquid Graphics interface and the improved Just-in-Time Javascript engine, which is considered to offer for a far better web experience.

Conclusion

Featuring almost everything asked for by the smartphone users, BlackBerry Bold 9900 offers an excellent performance. Nokia’s E6 is a standard and quality device and it also performs well with all its sophisticated advancements. But from the comparison between both the devices it has been drawn that Bold 9900 outdone E6 in terms of performance.

Blackberry Curve 9320: The Latest Entrant In To The Family Of Curve Handsets

BlackBerry 10 handsets from RIM are set to hit the market later this year and look set to impress, at least if our BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha handset hands on review is anything to go by. RIM is still sticking with its BlackBerry 7 line of handsets in the time being however, and they got up close and personal with its latest budget social-centric model, the BlackBerry Curve 9320.

The BlackBerry Curve 9320 feels very light thanks to its 103g weight and the chassis manufactured of matte rubber-feel sides and black plastic cover feel pleasant in the hands, though you will be often polishing fingerprints off of its rear. The standard volume and camera buttons grace the BlackBerry Curve 9320’s right side, but there is as well as a new BBM hotkey on the left, firing up RIM’s immensely popular messaging service faster than the time it takes to type out a rapid lol.

The BlackBerry Curve 9320 has a 2.44in display screen that falls aptly in line with its entry-level status no touchscreen tech here, however RIM’s Track Pad remains as liquid as ever. The 320×240 resolution pales greatly to the pin-sharp screens of the HTC X, Samsung Galaxy S3 and Apple iPhone 4S, but those handsets are plenty of hundreds of pounds more pricey and it does still produces respectable colours.

Today, most of the mobile users want a smart and high-definition camera in their mobile handset. In order to cater to the camera needs of the consumers 3.2 mega pixels cameras have become the order of the day imaging-wise and we are a little disappointed that RIM didn’t smack up the sensor by another couple of megapixels. Still, the shots taken by the 3.2 mega pixel camera integrated in to the mobile are first rate for sharing with friends over BBM, Facebook and Twitter while on the go. There is as well as a flash for low-light conditions, positioned far away from the lens, though they didn’t get chance to check out low-light performance.

An 806Mhz single-core processor paired with 512MB RAM manages to keep the BlackBerry 7.1 operating system functioning smoothly from what we saw, though we will require more time to properly put it through its paces. BB 7.1 OS’s new browser is also liquid and fast, and browsing through menus and apps is a stutter-free experience. You will be desirous to nab yourself a micro-SD card to load up on media however, as there is only 512MB of onboard memory storage space.

The keyboard of BlackBerry Curve 9320 follows RIM’s practice of outstanding typing hardware. Although the keys are somewhat smaller than those found on the Bold models, seasoned CrackBerry addicts ought to have no trouble whipping out messages on the Curve 9320’s keys, which are satisfyingly clickable and placed apart. The BlackBerry Curve 9320 looks set to be a solid budget handset for social butterflies toting a packed BBM, Twitter and Facebook friends list. Features like a dedicated BBM button and a giant one, 450mAh battery offering seven hours of talk time and 30 minutes of music playback will also appeal to users looking for first rate features at a low cost.

No Turn-By-Turn Navigation Feature For Apple IPhone 4

Apple at last took an audacious step at WWDC earlier this week by ditching Google Maps as the default mapping provider on iOS. Because of this change, iOS 6 will finally incorporate turn-by-turn navigation feature. iPhone users were in demand for this application for years and when it is going to be added, it seems that not all the users will get the chance to enjoy this turn-by-turn comfort. It is also stated that iPhone 4 and earlier device from the company won’t receive this feature.

On its official website, Apple has confirmed that the devices operating on the A5 or A5x ARM processors would be restricted to some of the mapping features. Apple iPhone 4 functions on the A4 chip that is a single-core 1GHz processor along with a 45nm manufacturing process. The original iPad is also powered with this A4 chip. The A5 chip of Apple that is integrated in to the devices like iPhone4S and iPad 2 is a dual-core processor clocked to 1GHz per-core on either 45 or 32nm; however, this depend on the manufacturing date. The A5x is a 32nm ARM chip that is similar to the A5 but it comes with a much better GPU.

The latest silicon from Apple is certainly faster then the old ones, but here the question arises whether the difference relevant to the features being pulled. Apart from the turn-by-turn navigation, the flyover photographic map view is also restricted to the A5 and higher devices. Devices with Android operating system have been embedded with good turn-by-turn navigation ever since the Motorola Droid in late 2009. However, this Motorola phone only had a 550Mhz single-core processor.

It is just not acceptable that Apple can’t make navigation work on a device powered by a 1GHz single-core ARM chip. In the current mobile market even the low-end Android devices are imbibed with both turn-by-turn directions and Google’s 3D map view. It seems as if Apple notably curbed features back from the previous devices in order to drive adoption of the new. For instance Siri was set aside for the iPhone 4S despite it was extensively believed that the iPhone 4 was capable.
